Island Selections, Inc. lists available properties for rent within the Caribbean region and caters primarily to visitors who wish to independently arrange their own travel itinerary. Listings on the site generally fall into one of four types:
Apartments – these are typically self-contained units carrying all amenities such as fully-equipped kitchen (including stove and fridge), living/dining areas and bedrooms. All apartments are fully furnished, and typically also include a change of linen. Visitors would generally need to provide their own meals. Apartments are usually located within an apartment complex, or may be a single apartment (for example one built as an extension of a private home). Villas – these generally provide all the amenities of home, and more. Each villa is fully furnished, and typically includes daily maid service and, if requested, an in-house chef. Many private villas also include additional amenities such as a swimming pool and/or tennis courts. Private houses – offer private accommodation such as villas, but generally do not include all the amenities offered by a villa. Like a standard apartment, you would need to service your own accommodation as typically additional services such as maid service would not be included.  Homestays – offer a little of everything. You are provided a room within a shared space with the homeowner(s) where breakfast is typically included. A homestay with a local family offers the advantages of a full immersion into the life and culture of the islands, and the opportunity interact with different people. Of course, homestays are not for everyone so if you are willing to accept the preferences of a host family such as no smoking indoors, then the experience should be a positive and memorable one.
Generally for the type of accommodation listed, it is advisable that insurance is purchased before travelling to the islands such as health insurance.
